:o (No spoilers please) :o

So, I picked this up right before going to bed last night for ps3 (sony: the way FF's are supposed to be played :P ). I haven't had time to pop it in and I may not until after my big test tomorrow.

But I am still somewhat interested in getting a bit of a fix. Anyone have first impressions?

Gamesradar says the same, so I'm guessing its the general consensus. I'm vaguely tempted I have to say.

Ok, I have played it a bit now. Yes, the beginning is one big tutorial (although it isn't boring like most tutorials, it just limits some things until the tutorial explains them. But this really isn't that big a deal) that I haven't finished yet (only played ~2-5 hours so far).

I am really impressed with the story so far, it seems like they have gone back and looked at what made some of their games such successes and built from there. It is a rather unique story line with some familiar elements. Re-designed, MUCH faster paced battle, and much more customizeable battle with ability to change "class" so to speak at any point in the midst of battle.

So far, 2 thumbs up. Also, the cutscenes are very pretty (especially for consoles, yes, I know they are pre-rendered so its not too difficult).

Well, 8 of the 10 FF games made for consoles were made for playstation #. (1,2,3 were for nintendo, the rest are sony all the way)

Also, I heard reports that the PS3 version of the game is much better than the 360 version.

There was also the real 2/3 and 5 that were SNES games never realised outside of Japan until much later.

4 out of 13 are PS exclusives.

The 360 version suffers massive res drop to fit it onto disc, but I've also heard they aren't omg buy a PS3 bad.

Stunningly in-depth article.

So far, 2 hours in for me. Battles are too hectic! I want my turn-based!

Hectic?! The first half of the game is "Press X to win"! And you only control 1 character, the rest fight for themselves. >_<

As Obliter8 already said, 20 hour tutorial has really annoyed me.

The character's I can't find myself attaching too (Vanille and her walk... omg)

I'm enjoying it, slightly, but it's a major let down so far. Chu has gotten to the free-roam and it seems to pick up there... but so far i'm disappointed.

I just feel they've taken a step back and are simplifying it too much.

Not sure how that's customization... instead of "Use cure to cure" you now have to do "change to medic so they have the ability to cast cure."

Paradigm is nothing more then stances, it's hardly customization.

You can notice the difference between the pre-rendered and the in-engine cutscenes... but both still look beautiful, that's the main thing I'll give the game so far.

"Take a screen capture at any point of the game, and you have a new wallpaper."
